There is such a lack of “holding your tongue” within the church world and such a spirit of offense lingering in the air. It comes as evil distraction of the enemy meant to cause a fatal division within the body of Christ which was meant to work together.
When your brain communicates with your limbs they comply, as it should be. When this process is broken, disaster ensues. This is the same within the body of Christ. Where unity lacks, disaster is on the brink. God made the church body to work in unison, not against one another.
Over my years in ministry God has given my husband and I the honor of serving in different ministries and I have been saddened to see so many God-ordained relationships damaged by the lies of the enemy. I’ve witnessed brothers and sisters within the kingdom spiritually and mentally injured by words exchanged through great emotional upset.
This is the work of the powers of Hell. It can come in the form of distraction, lies, manipulation, and other things. It is in our human nature to get upset because we are emotional beings. But, we cannot let satan get in our words. We cannot allow our thoughts toward others to swell into a storm that rages within. Unfortunately this happens more then we all realize. Keep in mind this important passage found in Ephesians 6:12, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
God hasn’t designed any of us to live under the mindset of this world. He has not called us to allow every negative thought we have come to fruition. Cast it down! The word of God says “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:21. Watch what you say! Your words can shoot arrows of death or they can revive a dying soul! It doesn’t matter what the circumstances are. Every word matters! Pray and speak life in every situation. You may see death, darkness and failure all around you but, God sees purpose, beauty, and potential in people we often write off. “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5
You cannot and will not produce “fruit” with a filthy, world-minded mouth. God will not speak through you if you cannot control your tongue. I’m not just referring to foul language. You might bluff it and say the words of your mouth come from God. But, you cannot fool God. Woe be unto you if you claim something is from Him and it is not. Clean and dirty water cannot flow from the same fountain. Period. This is why we should always dwell in prayer. No one is so high and mighty that they are exempt from failing. May we use our mouths for their God-intended purpose. To glorify God and bring life in our dying world. Jesus has called us higher beloved ones. Much higher than many of us are currently living. His word will always lead us to grow and cause growth in others around us.
When the storm of gossip and discord rages, you must walk overtop the troubled waters to get closer Jesus. How can you see the storm when Jesus, the Light of the world, in His blinding and beautiful radiance is right in front of you? Who is your focus today? Are you focusing on someone or a certain set of circumstances? Continually pray for your focus to be restored to where it needs to be. Spiritual guidance doesn’t always come through others. Others will not always know what you need. But, Jesus always does.
You have to seek the Holy Spirit on your own. Without His guidance, your life and walk with Christ is in vain. How can you walk without Him? John 14:26 says it this way, “But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” Without the guidance of the Holy Spirit you can feel lost, discouraged and without purpose. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to guide you daily. Not just on church days. But, every single day. Jesus desires your interaction so deeply. He knows that without his hand to guide you, you will fall. Like the old classic says, “I can’t even walk without you holding my hand….”
Be encouraged today through Jesus. He is never into condemning you and making you feel low. John 3:16-17 says it this way, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”
