Hidden From the Enemy

Remember as a child feeling scared and running to Dad or Mom for protection? It’s like a reflex or instant reaction the moment trouble ensues. There was no doubt in your mind that they would provide that protection you needed. No question that they would save you from your enemy or fear itself.

As an adult I sometimes feel so exposed to the powers of hell. Sometimes it can feel like I have a great big, red bull’s-eye on me.

Have you ever felt like this? I know I’m not the only one.

The funny thing about it though is that when we are older we are not as quick to run to the shelter of our Heavenly Father. We are not as swift to ask for help because we sometimes think we have it all figured out. But, it is so important that we realize our battle stance as Christ followers is not to stand alone. To be hidden under the shadow of His wings is the most honorable place any of us could be. Why do you think God put so much emphasis on it in His Word?

What exactly does running to our Heavenly Father for protection look like?

Imagine a place where no foe or enemy can find you. Imagine a place where all the storms of life dissipate at one sweep of the Master’s hand. Envision for a moment with me a love that overtakes all the evil this world can muster up and transforms it into a peaceful solitude. A place where you can be wrapped tightly and safely in His arms.

We all have the freedom to enter this place. The Bible refers to it as the “secret place”. Psalms 91 gives us a hope like no other in Jesus. He is that secret place. “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” Psalms 91:1-2. It goes on to tell us that He will deliver us from our enemies and hide us in times of trouble.

But, how do we get to this place? We come to this place first and foremost by knowing Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and King. After being washed in His blood and cleansed from all our worldliness we can continue to be in this “secret place” by abiding with Him in continuous prayer. This is why the Bible talks so much on prayer. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 encourages us to, “Pray without ceasing”. If we don’t remain here we can become easy targets to the devil.

By dwelling in this place we will flourish. “The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.” Psalms 92:12

I don’t know about you but, I desire to flourish!

May we run relentlessly to Jesus without a second thought. May we pray to be hungrier for Him today than we were yesterday. No moment of our time spent in the secret place is wasted.
