Dig Up the Old Wells

Before social media, money, jobs, and society took over the reins of our lives. There was a day when men sought God before any other thing. A day when every step of the servant was led of the Lord. A day when servants listened to the voice of Jesus rather than being deafened by all the other voices around them.

There are STILL servants like this. People desiring nothing more than to please their Heavenly Father. People putting everything else on the back burner except Jesus.

My mind goes to Genesis Chapter 26 when I think about true servants of God. I long to “dig those old wells” as Issac did. The wells of our Fathers and Mothers in Christ. The ones who have gone before us and paved the way of TRUTH. The ones who have paid the price before us to make a way for the Kingdom of God. The names are different for all of us. A few come to mind for me; My home church Pastor, Bro. David Hansel, my mentor and friend, Bro. David Elgin, the Founder of UCCMA, H. Richard Hall, my childhood Pastor, Bro. Charles McKinley, and a few more.

I long for home! I don’t mean my heavenly home, though I want to go there one day, but, my home here on earth. I desire to be in the will of Jesus. Don’t you?

I am not dismissing the true moves of God happening around us. God is moving many places right now.

However, it is truly scary to see the results of how real something can look and yet how fake it can be. The point is that there are counterfeits. Counterfeits are right out scary because so many precious people can be fooled. That is why as I stated in a previous post that our reliance should be on Jesus solely. If our full trust is in Him, when/if someone we look up to falls; we won’t fall apart. Always, trust and look upon JESUS.

You do not want to go to hell because someone you admired went the wrong direction and you followed! Eternity is at stake for you and those who look to you for guidance. Point those who admire you to Jesus, not yourself. Jesus is the only reason you exist. Jesus is the only way to truth and life.

For this reason we must follow the direction of Genesis chapter 26 spiritually. In verse 18 of this chapter it says, “And Isaac digged again the wells of water, which they had digged in the days of Abraham his father; for the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham: and he called their names after the names by which his father had called them.”

There is a reason for the “wells” in your life and the people that have gone before you to show you the way of the Lord. There will come a time where you will appreciate the “wells” previously dug by your “Father and Mothers”. You may or may not realize that now. But, one day you will have a burning passion to go “home” and dig those wells that have been stopped up by others.

From those wells flow truth, life, and the fullness of Jesus. From them many can and will drink and not thirst again. “But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14. Don’t forsake the old wells, because they will flow again.
