An Expression of Jesus

Is there a way to be an expression of Jesus in today’s world?

Ponder on that for a moment with me.

I wonder continually about this question because Christianity has been lied on by demonic forces from hell. Remember and tuck this in your heart, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12.

I hear it all the time from people, “Why should I go to church when those that go are just as messed up as me?” That question must be echoed every five seconds throughout history. I agree that the church world seems messed up at times especially when as a whole it doesn’t embrace the fullness of the Word of Jesus. But, we must keep in mind the humanity of everyone around us, even in church. Sure, there must be order and guidelines according to Biblical principles. There should be accountability in leadership and non-tolerance for outright sin. There is a Heaven and hell, these truths are real. You will face this reality one day.

However, let’s keep one very important point in mind, “Jesus died for you, people did not.” People would’ve condemned you to hell a long time ago had it not been for the sweet blood of Jesus. You’ve been bought with a price and God Himself seen fit to send “His only begotten Son” for you and I!

Do not forget that you cannot and will not receive salvation through anyone other than Jesus Himself. Do not look to people and worship them as you would Jesus. In other words, do not put someone on a pedestal. Though we are servants and should be Christlike; people do falter. When someone you look up to falters, it can rip you to pieces and destroy your walk with Jesus. Especially if you put them above Jesus. We must always look to Jesus. Hebrews 12:22 says, “ Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” It’s through Him and only by Him that we should walk this journey.

That is not to say that you should walk it alone. I believe with all my heart God sends us people to walk with along the way. Whether it be a Pastor, Brother, Sister, Mother, etc. These people are meant to be a positive reinforcement. They should be a representation of this verse in Proverbs 27:17, “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” Friendship is very important because it encourages us and challenges us to get closer to Jesus. We all should try to encourage our own friends and vice versa. That’s what a true friend does. Encouraging and praying for one another strengthens us all.

So, yes, I do believe it is possible to be an expression of Jesus despite the lies out there. This scripture comes to mind when I think about expressing Jesus, “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.” Ephesians 5:2. Love is the only way to portray Jesus. Love does not mean you are giving permission to sinful acts. But, it does mean you need to be an example to those around you. You must pray, you must read His word, you must fast to see the world through the eyes of Jesus.

When you continually strive for that, your world-view will change. You will be an expression of Jesus everywhere you go because your “lenses” will be in focus with God’s. There is hope for the dark evil in the world to be banished by the light if we will just be an expression of Jesus.
