Look not to the left or right, do not be distracted, don’t be taken aback by anything or anyone. You have a mission for the Kingdom of Jesus now. Time to follow His footsteps and leave all else behind. He is anticipating the feeling of your hand gripping His. He is listening for your footsteps behind Him. Like the old song says, “I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back.” You can’t afford to be distracted now. Time is of the essence.
Luke 10:2-4 says it this way, “Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.”
Worries of life scream for our attention on a daily basis. There is and always will be something else distracting us if we allow it. We tend to loose our purposeful path and focus along the way a lot. Our selfish flesh arises and wants to take us over. I’ve been there too many times. Life is anything but simple in our day and age and the enemy uses those things as a tool of distraction. He is conniving, cunning and prowls the earth “seeking whom he may devour.” according to 1 Peter 5:8. These things don’t have to be bad things to cause you distraction.
Even good things can become a distraction when we place them before our most important relationship of all. God should be our foundation to everything. He is the light of our life, the fabric of our being, and the breath of life that pulsates through every inch of our human bodies! But, the enemy lies, even to the most sold-out Christians sometimes.
I often think about the great revivals that happened years ago. I’ve researched a few and one main similarity they all have is that people were hungry for God and nothing got in the way of that. That hunger overcame every day life so much so that people came together daily to lift up the mighty name of Jesus and to pursue a deeper relationship with Him. The hunger for more became an unrelenting pursuit of Jesus. It wasn’t about the “revival” in the church building, it was about the revival in the hearts of man. Our hunger must be relentless. The Merriam Webster dictionary describes the word relentless this way, “showing no signs of slackening or yielding in one’s purpose.” It also reminds me of the precious scripture in Isaiah 50:7 that says, “For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.” We have to be determined!
It is hard to hear our own heart wailing out within us to be in complete harmony with our Creator sometimes. We get stressed with life, burdened by finances, brokenhearted by the death of a precious friend or loved one and we are too quick to ignore it. But, God is always there even during those times. He desires to be a part of every aspect of our lives.
When I first married my precious husband Joshua back in 2006 I remember being in such awe of his persistent prayer life. I grew up in wonderful church and Christian family, but I had never seen anything like it. I knew prayer was vital communication with God and I prayed too, but Joshua’s prayer life was so strong, persistent and intense! I remember several instances when I would get upset about something silly and he would say, “Do you need to go pray?” We laugh about it now, but at the time his statement offended me a little. That is because I didn’t understand his reasoning. You see, he knew I was stressed, and whether it was big or small the issue that was bothering me needed to be laid at the feet of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is imperative that we lay down everything for Him.
We need to refocus.
It isn’t too late to ask God to help you refocus. We all need to be reset sometimes. We wouldn’t be in need of constant communication with Jesus if didn’t need something, right?
Pray to see the world through His eyes. The world around us seems to be crumbling. But, through His eyes it looks like a field ripe for harvest. Numerous people are at your fingertips for a reason. God is calling a fountain to flow from your lips that will be the key to awaken hearts. Flood the streets with the Kingdom that God placed inside of you when He saved you!
Do not relent, do not hold back. Fine tune yourself in prayer, reading the word, fasting and communication with the Father constantly. Don’t be satisfied with the now; always hunger for more. You were born for this moment in time and you have a purpose. You were born to run with Jesus!
“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.” Matthew 13:44
